Wraith Larp

Wraith Freeform

When: 7pm Friday 4/12/09
Where: ANU. Copeland G030,031

Here is the list of Pregens for the upcoming Wraith Game

If you haven't received an email from me containing this list and you intend playing please contact me. An email went out earlier this afternoon so if you haven't gotten it, you're either not registered or I don't have a current email for you.

Stacy if you're reading this I don't have a current email for you.

Grim Legion, XIXth Arrondissement Division: (The military governor and his legionnaires).

The Marshal (m/f) - Grim Legion (Violence), French noble, beheaded during the Revolution. Military governor of the suburb.

The Enforcer (m) - A Grim Legion thug, killed in action. Technically under the command of the Overlord, but known to be in the pay of the Bride.

The Artificer (m) – Grim Legion. Killed in action in France, this man has the unenviable job of hammering the souls of criminals and dissidents into bricks and swords and coins.

The Veteran (m) - Also Grim Legion, killed in France. A scared kid who lied about his age to join the military.

The Bushveldt Carbineer (m) - Grim Legion, killed in action in the Boer War, the Marshal's personal hitman.

The Combat Medic (m) - Grim Legion, killed in action, was a pacifist in life, which didn't stop him getting shipped to France.

Parisian Commercial & Metaphysical: (Not a corporation or a Guild so much as an association of like-minded businessmen, who between them have a near-monopoly on certain essential services).

The Banker (m/f) - Head of the local Stygian Trust bank. Iron Legion (old age), a plutocrat and a war profiteer.

The Head Nurse (f) - A Pardoner, responsible for keeping people from falling to their Shadows. Killed by one of her patients, and thus a member of the Penitent Legion (madness, not on the Grim's side but largely irrelevant).

The Doctor (m/f) - Skeletal Legion. A Masquer, and thus both a doctor who died from something he caught from a patient and the only way to get things made. The only doctor in the suburb, so too important to kill.

The Bright Young Things: (A circle for those killed before their time; the suburb’s entertainers and beautiful people).

The Heiress (f) – Emerald Legion. Killed when the car she was riding in flew off a cliff. Bright, funny and rumored to be addicted to certain practices that Stygia deems illegal.

The Banshee (m) - Died of disease while on holiday in France in 1912, so was one of the few young men of his generation to miss the war. Cheerful, outgoing and kind of vapid, but the ranking member of the Skeletal Legion in this part of Paris.

The Playwright (f) – Legion of Paupers (death by mystery). A refined young woman and a talented artist. Directs the dreams of her clients.

Various Others: (For various reasons, these people do not have circles of their own).

The Bride (f) - A crime lord. Emerald Legion (accident), killed when the roof of the church collapsed on her wedding day.

The Junk Merchant (m/f) – Skeletal Legion. A con-man. A scavenger who sells things on the street.

The Oracle (m/f) - Skeletal Legion. Died of the flu, and has mystic insight because of that.

The Harbringer (m/f) – An explorer of the Underworld, and a Penitent Legionnaire (death by madness). If you're going to travel anywhere outside the suburb, you need a Harbringer.

If you're interested, as usual, contact Joe or myself

All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

Wraith for anyone not on Ubexael's lj

Wraith: the Great War.

It’s 1917, and you’re dead.

The first question everyone asks is this: How did you die? Maybe you caught a bullet on the Somme. Maybe you drowned in the mud. Maybe a church collapsed, or a car crashed, or you coughed your lungs out in a hospital bed. Maybe you did it to yourself. Maybe you don’t know how it happened. There are any number of stories in Grim-Legion-occupied-Paris, after all.

The second question is everyone asks is: What are you going to do now? Resolve any unfinished business you have left over. Become a power in the Empire of the Dead. Take revenge on everyone who wronged you. Sell slaves, souls and emotions. Fight the enemies of Stygia, or bring down the Empire itself. Listen to that voice in your head that’s telling you what to do, or rip it out and fight it. Explore the underworld, and hope it doesn’t swallow you whole.

So, yeah. Wraith. Starting up an ongoing Wraith freeform (about once every six months, with the first session taking place the evening of Friday December 4th). I’m looking for players – I have 16 pregenerated PCs written up, so we’ll fill those spots first, then see if there’s any overflow. I’m also looking for assistant STs, including at least one Shadow-ST. Setting knowledge is not necessary – I’ll be putting together a Wraith 101 shortly. We’ll be using the old MET system – again, though, don’t worry if you don’t know it. If you’re interested, contact either myself or Dea Matthews (who’s doing the ooc-coordinating side of things) and we’ll get a character list out to you in the next few days. For inspiration, think a mixture of Casablanca and Beetlejuice as written by Wilfred Owen, with a soundtrack by Tool.

Trip

Monday 18th

Drove to Sydney stopped at Simple for last minute work and discuss the visit to Simpl the NZ company who they're collaborating with.

After several hours went to the Apartment building where we were staying the night got takeaway so we could collapse and get an early night. Fortunately we were still mostly dressed when the fire alarm went off. Just somebody burning toast, thank goodness. Went back in and tried to settle.

Tuesday morning. Had to be at the airport by 8.20am at the latest dropped the hire car in the airport carpark and headed in about 8am.

First Hurdle I discover I don't have my phone with me.
Eventually track it down in the car in Canberra. At least I haven't lost it.

I hate mornings. We got breakfast at the airport after booking in our luggage and going through customs. Apparently our passports are almost out of date (3-4 months left on them.), if we weren't going to NZ this might have been a problem.

Air NZ flight was good, meal was okay, bit of turbulance over the Southern Alps but not a problem.

Arrived in Christchurch around 3.30pm local time.

2nd hurdle, find free bus to hire car pick up, can't ring them because Robbie's phone (3rd hurdle) isn't calling out. Something to do with the roaming package is wrong. We have no NZ change and the phone's don't take notes.

While trying to find someone to sell me a phonecard I find Vodaphone who will rent me a mobile phone for my stay in NZ. I don't have change but I do have a NZ mobile.

The free bus still leaves from the same place it just weaves between the construction signs.

Get on free bus get to rental car place, arrive with no dramas. The car place wants a visa card deposit of $1200 or we have to take out full insurance. The full insurance adds almost half again to the hire fee but does mean that we don't have to worry about any damage.

Find hotel booked through web. Can recommend Salerno Motel/apartments to anybody staying in Christchurch. It's easy to find and the people are really nice.

Had Dinner at a place called Valentino's it was nice. Lamb shanks with mash is a really popular dish on the Menu's here.

Wednesday
We had planned on going up to Dunedin and then on to Invercargill and Milford Sound or to Queenstown and down the west coast. Unfortunately we could only go as far as Dunedin. The Lindis Pass into Queenstown was closed as were the roads to Invercargill.

Can't say I was impressed with the hotel in Dunedin, it wasn't bad but it wasn't as nice as the first one and cost as much.

The roads are okay, except for sleet and snow. Got warned a couple of times not to expect good roads. I guess most NZeders think we all grew up with motorways. The roads are similar to what you get going down to Cooma or up the north coast of NSW. Lots of two laned sealed roads with the ocassional passing lane.

Thursday

Left Dunedin expecting to wind up back in Christchurch. Decided to go as far along the road to Queenstown as we could just so we could see the scenery. Glad we did, the scenery is worth it. We also made it through the pass to Queenstown. It was snowing nearly all the way. The mountains are breathtaking.

Tried to get coffee at Cromwell at about 5pm. Nobody was doing cappacinos at that time. They either weren't open yet or had already closed or didn't do hot drinks, or their machine was broken. Robbie - coffee not good.

Got in to Queenstown about an hour later and took the first motel we asked at. Don't recommend doing that at all. The room was freezing and had inadequate heating. It had obviously not been refurbished in 20years. It did however have an excellent view of the lake and the mountains. Tariffs in Queenstown are high and a decent room seems to go for half again what they cost in Christchurch.

Friday.
Because of the Detour to Dunedin we were a little behind time So we decided to push on to Ross. We saw Fox Glacier but decided not to detour to Franz-Joseph since it didn't look like we'd get to Ross before dark. At Ross, we decided to push on as there were only 2 motels, neither looked great. We ended up at Hokitiki about 1hour further up the road. The hotel was okay, slightly better heating and a lot newer decor than Queenstown. Dinner at the refurbished pub and desert at the Cafe de Paris (aparently the owner is a frenchman who married a local girl.) Collapsed due tiredness didn't get to use the spa til the morning.

Saturday
Left Hokitiki by 9.30am after unsuccessfully trying to find a jug that would run off the cigarette lighter. Drove into Greymouth stopped and shopped for a bit. Robbie is still looking for the jug. Headed onto Blenheim to stay the night. Saw some of the coast but mostly drove through flat farmland or twisty hilly roads. The single lane bridges I can cope with but the single lane railcrossings, freak me a little. The spot where the railroad and the single lane bridge are one and the same, that freaks me a lot.

Currently sitting in the motel in Blenheim wondering when we will be able to get the ferry to Wellington. It was cancelled today because of bad weather. They're not sure if it will be running tomorrow. We're booked on the 1.30pm trip.

See aren't you glad I don't do this more regularly.

Dea

Holidays

Okay I spent the last 2 days packing. Not really, spent most of the time washing and trying to get stuff dry. I only repacked the bag twice. I don't like leaving home or the trip back, I'm fine once I'm about an hour from home.

Made Robbie put new locks on the external doors, and yes, we gave the kids keys. Hopefully got the fence fixed where the dogs from a house behind up have been getting through (the fence is in really poor condition but the dogs only started getting in on Wednesday). Their dogs seem friendly enough but our small dogs aren't which worries me, our dogs might provoke an attack.

Currently I'm making my last entries to RPG.net before we go to pick up the hire car. We'll then head off to Sydney where we're staying the night before flying out to NZ.

I may even update my journal from time to time with travel stuff. We'll be driving around both Islands before heading to Auckland to attend a science fiction convention. Robbie's been invited as fan guest of honour.

holidays

Steph just found what she considers to be the perfect family holiday location (for our family) Lizzie Borden's bed and breakfast in Massachusetts. Apparently it is Lizzie Borden's old family home turned into a bed and breakfast, plus Massachusetts easy commute to all those wonderful places that Lovecraft immortalized.

Dexter the series

Finished watching season 2 last night watched season 1 immediately before it. Thank goodness for DVDs. My barracking for the serial killer probably won't surprise anyone. ethanthescribe getting upset because he might get caught is. The way the series portrays Dexter the monster and Dexter the person just trying to blend in is brilliant. If you get a chance watch this series.

You scored as Esmerelda (Granny) Weatherwax
You are Granny Weatherwax! The most powerful witch on the Disc! You often use headology rather than actual spells, and are a very good witch, despite the fact that you sometimes wish you were a bad one. You play a mean game of Cripple Mr. Onion, and have a very powerful stare. By the way, you should really get that broom fixed…

what drink are you?

Typical I see champagne as pretenious and boring.

Your Score: Champagne

If you were a drink, you'd be 34% alternative, 46% caustic and 61% playful. Mmm, tasty.

So, we all know that people aren't beverages, and trying to drink other people won't end well for anyone. If you were a drink, though, I think you'd be Champagne.

Champagne packs just a bit more punch, much like you - but it's bubbly and fizzy and matches your sense of fun and adventure. It's sexy, frothy, and responsible for plenty of people hooking up with each other - and it's the perfect, safe, festive choice for anyone who feels like getting tipsy but isn't sure what way to go about getting there.

In other words, you measured as more popular than alternative. This may mean your tastes are a little more mainstream, that you tend more to the right than the left, or that your style is just a little bit safer.

You also measured as somewhere in between gentle and caustic. This may mean that you're capable of being a bit more hot-headed or fiery in your demeanour, or that you can be a bit more assertive - but you don't go overboard and you have your calmer moments, too.

Finally, you measured as more playful than serious. This may mean you're more of a lighthearted individual, or that you're more inclined to joke around than the average person. On the other hand, it may mean you're more sexually driven than most people. Both of these factors were grouped on this variable.

I know you must be thirsty, but why don't you take another one of my tests? They're really good. Honest.

The Non-Sequitur Personality Test

If you're feeling a bit random, you should be right at home with this one.

The Verbal Obscenity Test

Are you the type to let loose with a forked tongue?

The Underwear Personality Test

Go on... find out what underwear you should be wearing.
